One shade of grey for an Inky tutorial!

Hello Inky Fans

It's Judith here today with a quick tutorial about two things really

  1. You don't need a Christmas image to make a Christmas card
  2. You only need one shade of grey - or one colour infact - no matter what that book says!!

I've made a quick and easy Christmas card with the Inky stamp

Hazel baking cookies
you can find her  here

Hazel Baking Cookies

I coloured her with copics - not particularly carefully (whoops!) - but that doesn't really matter when you use a prismacolour pencil to go back in to add shade and depth to the image. And to shade the whole image all you need is

One shade of grey!!

Infact prismacolor 70% warm grey.  You could use any grey or even black (and if I want an even deeper vintage look I do use black- it does great things when used with red - but thats for another day)  but for this particular card I wanted a warm look and thats what the 70% grey gives to this image.

Here is the image coloured with copics - it looks ok - but lacks any depth and as you can see I havent done a great deal of blending with the colours and it all looks a bit too bright in places

Next I added lines of grey where I wanted to add the shade with the pencil you'll notice I have not added any to the centre of the face

I then started to blend the pencil with Sansodor solvent

You can now see that there is a lot more depth to the image also I added shade to the centre of the face just by using whatever colour I had already picked up on my blending stump and blending it into the centre of  the face.

I then cleaned off my blending stump (with an emery board) and used just Sansodor to further blend and thin out the grey in places

All of the colours are now muted - which was the effect I was looking for- and there is shade and light to the little bears fur and the clothes and bowl.

I then trimmed the card and shaded with distress ink before I mounted the image onto green card and added  papers, ribbon  and embellies  to make this cute Christmas card - and there she is

Hazel baking her Christmas Cookies

This is what I used to make this card

Coloured with copics - fur E40,41,43  ribbon and apron trim R37,35,32  apron G28,07,00  bowl E53,51,       cookie mix E11,21, eyes B93 Inside ears YR 20,21
And ....Prismacolor pencil - one shade of grey 70% warm grey
Papers - first edition - festive treats (cookies were also cut from these papers)
Distress ink - Tea dye by Tim Holtz
Sentiment - LOTV
Shaped card - craftwork cards
Heart charm - Inky impressions
Gems and ribbon - from my stash

Now go and have a look at your stamps! Thers lots of stamps you could use that aren't Christmas stamps that will make a beautiful Christmas card.  Hope I gave you some inspitation

Big Inky Christmas hugs

Inspirational Post - Tonya

Hey everyone, Tonya, here. I hope you are having a fabulous day. Today's inspirational post is a holiday card using Hazel Baking Cookies. In this case she is baking holiday cookies. :o)

I used paper from The Robin's Nest and from Recollections. The brads are from Bo Bunny. I adore this ribbon that I used, but unfortunately I am not sure who makes it. This was the last of it and I hate to see it go.

I used Memento ink in Tuxedo Black to stamp my image and Copics to color. I used a sparkle gel pen to go over the hairbows and apron trim to give them sparkle.

Quick tip: when you cut an image out go around the edges with a black marker so it covers any white edges that you may have left.

Don't forget to participate in our blog hop and new challenge to have a chance at four Inky prizes this week. Also I have blog candy to give away on my blog, so be sure to stop by and get your name entered.

That's it for me today. I hope you have a beautiful week!  :o)

Inky impressions Inspirational Post

Hi there! Dawn here today, I have the honor of being a Guest Designer at Inky Impressions for July and August. I am so excited to have this great opportunity. Thanks so much INKY IMPRESSIONS.

For my project, I used the Inky Impressions rubber stamp called "Hazel Baking Cookies", which is available in the Inky Impressions Store that I colored using Copic markers.
A closer look at my colored image:

For my card today, I made a multi fold card. Here is a picture of my finished card:

To make this folded card, I used a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock. I scored it lengthwise in half at 4 1/4. I then turned my paper and butted the 8 1/2 side to the left of my scoring board and scored at 2 3/4 inches. I flipped my card around and scored at 2 3/4 on the other side. I cut out the two side rectangles created by the score marks on the top half only.

Here's a picture of what this should look like:

Then you decorate as you please...... Here's a picture of the sides folded in:

And one more of the finished card:

Be sure to visit the Inky Impressions Store to see all the wonderful stamps and digi's. Also check out the Inky Impressions Challenge Blog to see the challenges, see what fabulous prizes are being offered and to see all the inspiration from the Design Team.

Hello, Mary J here!

Hello and a very happy Saturday to you!  I am Mary J and very chuffed to be one of the July/August guest designers for Inky Impressions!  Before I show you my card, here's a quick intro!

I began cardmaking in 2007 after being introduced to it by a work colleague but only managed to make a card a month.  So I started my own blog Where's My Creativity? in 2009 as a way to challenge myself and improve my skills.  I primarily love stamping and - as my husband calls it - colouring them in!  I enjoy watercolouring and using pencils but I always tend to reach for my Copics because of the limited time I have.

I love to experiment and try new styles and techniques from clean and simple to vintage.  My natural style has to be clean lines, little embellishing and using my punches and dies.  I tend to go for cutesy, sweet images which is why I love Inky Impressions so much - from the gorgeous girls to the adorable animals!

So for my first guest designer make, I decided to use Hazel Baking Cookies...

Isn't she beautiful?  The frilly apron and sweet bows are toooooo adorable!  I matched Hazel up with DCWV papers and my Martha Stewart doily border punch.

Well, that is it from me for now and I'll be back soon with some more Inky Impressions projects!

A little treat box

Good morning Inky friends!  Thanks for stopping by today's inspirational post.  Tanya here to share with you today!  Inky Impressions is split into two teams but we work together to share all sorts of great things with you each and every day.  This month we are showing you anything but a card!  There are so many different ways to use these adorable images :)

For my project today I used Hazel Baking Cookies to add to my little treat box.  Since the box was so small (it was a recycled russell stover's mini chocolate box), there wasn't much room for embellishments.  I did add for Inky pearls to the corner to add a little something along with ribbon around the bottom edge.

and another view

Thanks for visiting today and make sure you come back tomorrow for some more great inspiration!!!

What's Cookin' Hazel?!

Posted by *Vicki* of Stamped Smiles
Hello there Inky friends! :)  I have a fun post for you today but before I get to it, I wanted to remind you that a brand new challenge is up at the Inky Impressions Challenge Blog as of yesterday!!  You'll want to check out all of the beautiful inspiration that the design team has come up with for the challenge and play along with us...can't wait to see what you come up with!!

So here's the creation I have for you today:
Oh so yummy, yummy, yummy in my tummy!!  Who doesn't love chocolate?!  OK..if you don't, I'll take yours!! :)  ...and yes, I had to eat my photo prop right after taking this! LOL!!
Do you remember this darling image from our last blog hop called Hazel Baking Cookies?  Isn't she just the sweetest thing?!!  I have so much fun coloring her in...I always try to find new colors for her, but I love getting out my glitter pen for her cooking utensil! :)  Now from some other people that's left me comments, she's been called many different types of animals...I have to chuckle!  But as far as I know, Hazel is a koala bear!  But if she's whipping up something yummy, I'll call her whatever she wants me to!! TEE!

I've made one of those really fun Criss Cross Cards.  (You can find the tutorial by CLICKING HERE.)  I've got some really yummy cupcake patterned paper with sparkly frosting!  I've added a pull tab at the top of my insert and cut out a portion of the cupcake patterned paper for an accent on it.  The "yummy" was stamped by me three times in chocolate chip ink no doubt! :)  and of course I finished it off with ribbon wrapped around the card.

And for the insert of my Criss Cross Card, I've decided to add the yummy recipe that Hazel is baking up for us! :)  These cookies just sounded so delicious when I saw it on-line and so I just printed it out on card stock and cut it to size for the insert of my card.  I even added a photo of the cookies along the side of the recipe!

Thanks for checking in with me at the Inky kitchen to see what's cookin'!!
Please come back again and sign up as a follower so you don't miss a thing here!
Lots of inspiration going on from all of the DT!!
Enjoy your day!! HUGS
