A New Time Waster!

I admit it ... I'm obsessed.

I can waste more time on the computer than anyone I know. Between Splitcoast Stampers, Facebook and e-mail, time just slips away. Sadly, there is a NEW site that has grabbed my fancy and it's called Pinterest.

Many of you are probably thinking, why would you waste time on the computer when there are gardens to hoe and trails to hike. You are right of course, BUT, if you have a free moment ... check it out. You can find recipes, ideas for your dream craft room, stamps, design team members, card sketches and amazing cards. The great thing is that all the fantastic pictures link right back to the original sites. Not only do you have a picture of a great lemon torte ... you can click it and GET the recipe for the cake.

Today is P-day (pinterest day) at my house. I made THIS card from a sketch on my page AND I'm making dinner comprised ENTIRELY of pinterest recipes. It will either be a fantastic meal or a dismal failure! Exciting and unknown.

It's my turn (Anne) to inspire you today and I've used the gorgeous Lili's Stuffed Bunny
for my card.  Isn't she sweet?

I've coloured her with copics and prisma pencils, oh and a little stickles on her hairband.

I'm in love with loads of flowers on my cards at the moment so I've made a little bouquet of bits and bobs from my stash and some of the lovely flat backed pearls also available from Inky Impressions store.

So, that's my little bit of inspiration for your today girls, I hope you like it:)

Sew Smart Cards

Hi, it's Joanna from Sitting on Pens here and I wanted to talk to you about sewing. It's not just for fabric anymore! Yesterday was my birthday, and my hubby gave me a new sewing machine! Yay! But I wanted to show you some things that you can do with a sewing machine that maybe you hadn't thought about.

This is the planning stage of making my card. I chose to use a sketch I had seen on one of my MANY laundry avoidance blurfing trips.

After I plan my layers, it's time to sew.
I just wanna say that this ---->
is NOT my new machine. I'm writing this post early and darned if he won't let me HAVE the new machine early. Rats.

A few tips for sewing:

1) You do NOT have to be an expert sewer! I am sooo not and it still looks GREAT.

My dog feels the need to lie between me and my sewing pedal so my stitches are OFTEN crooked. It doesn't matter.

2) Paper is tough on needles. I use a specific heavy duty needle and then ONLY use that needle for paper. I just switch it out when I sew on fabric.

3) I like to use adhesive to secure my paper to the backing. This way I only need to worry about making sure my seams are straight rather than worry about keeping the two papers straight.

4) I put a small piece of tape on the back to secure the stitching. I also cut out the backing. Since I like to layer, it makes it less heavy to mail and saves on paper costs. What can I say ... I'm thrifty.

My last bit of advice to you is not to worry about mistakes in your stitching. I made an oopie on one of my layers and just put a strategic button to hide it.

Sew there you have it ... the low down on sewing. I want to encourage you to get out there and try it!

And before we go, I give you one more card to inspire. The stitches are slightly crooked (the dog bumped me, REALLY!!) but it is STILL cute!

It's my turn ( Anne) to give out some Inky Inspiration this morning.
I'm so sick of all the valentine and love cards that are doing the rounds at the moment so I thought I'd just do a plain old birthday card.  I just needed a break from all this lovely dovey stuff lol
So hopefully I'll inspire you to get inky with something other than valentine cards

Meet the gorgeous Lili's Stuffed Bunny:)



I began by choosing these papers which are a mix of bits and bobs from me stash box.  It's not often I manage to match up enough to use but hey ho and away we go was the order of the day.  I then cut the little fence and tree with my cricut, added a few pearls to the leaves, coloured her up with copics to match and generated the sentiment on my pc which I then hung on the fence.
I hope you like her as much as I do.
